Curriculum Vitae

What is a C.V.?

The  C.V. is adopted from the Latin: curriculum meaning running, a contest in running, race course of action, vitae meaning life, career, livelihood, mode of life.

Your C.V. is a representation of the real you and is your opportunity directly to communicate with an employer about your skills, experiences and achievements. It is important that you put a great deal of thought into the preparation of your c.v. in order to ensure that you produce a document which sells your qualities and makes the employer want to see you.

Chronological C.V.

A chronological c.v. is the most commonly used type and the one that most people tend to stick to irrespective of circumstances.  A chronological c.v. is a document that lists your employment history in reverse, i.e. starting at the present and working back.  The benefits of using this type of c.v. is that it will highlight to an employer your career path to date in a fashion that makes it easy for them to pick out your key skills and achievements.  Avoid this type of c.v. if you have an unstable work history or trying to move away from the type of employment you are currently involved with.
